Chinese Herbal Medicine is an essential component of Chinese Medicine. It has been practiced, developed, and refined over two millennia into the most comprehensive herbal medicine system in human history. Clinicians, scholars, and emperors of China safeguarded their medicine as a national treasure. As a result, it was able to grow and develop through clinical practice and meticulous recording and has been passed on to today's Chinese Herbalists as an incredibly valuable tool in restoring and maintaining health and wellness.
For chronic, intractable health problems Chinese Herbs are often necessary to bring a person back to balance. Herbs work in the body as substantial, biochemical agents that can resolve long-standing health issues by treating the root imbalance. Chinese Herbs can reset the body's metabolism and hormone system so it can return to homeostatic balance.

Herbal formulas are carefully chosen to address both the symptoms and the underlying cause of your condition. Formulas may be administered as whole herbs which are cooked at home into a tea, powders to be taken with hot water, or as capsules. They are chosen to best fit the patients needs and convenience.
For all health conditions, Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the most effective tools medicine has to offer.

Acupuncture is a modality of Chinese Medicine treatment in which very thin, sterile, single-use needles are inserted into the body at precise locations determined by the patient's condition. Acupuncture works by stimulating nerves, capillaries, and connective tissue. This stimulation results in the release of endogenous painkillers, reducing inflammation, promoting blood circulation, and promoting a natural healing response.

Acupuncture is a safe, painless, and effective method to treat a variety of medical conditions. Clinical research continues to prove its validity and fuel its acceptance and growth.

Myofascial Release
Myofascial release may be incorporated into acupuncture visits

Cupping and Guasha are ancient methods of myofasical release that can relieve chronic muscle tension and pain, and facilitate the circulation of blood, lymph, and removal of metabolic waste from the body tissues. Cupping Therapy dates back at least 4000 years and has been practiced in cultures all over the world. Today Cupping and Guasha are frequently used to treat chronic muscle tension and pain. Cupping is especially effective in relieving chronic muscle tension involved in neck pain, TMD/TMJ pain, and back pain. In Chinese Medicine, Cupping also has a long and successful history of treating respiratory diseases such as asthma, pneumonia, cough, bronchitis, and allergies.

Cupping involves using suction and a glass or bamboo cup to gently pull skin, fascia, and muscle tissue into the cup. Our clinic uses traditional 'fire cupping' where a small flame is placed inside the cup and removed to create a vacuum.

Guasha is a technique that uses a smooth edged metal or stone tool to gently work the muscles and fascia, unwinding tension and adhesions and breaking up scar tissue. The Guasha method is the basis for modern branded techniques such as the Graston technique.

Cupping and Guasha are especially useful for neck and back pain, asthma, headaches, TMJ pain, IT band tension and knee pain.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion may be incorporated into acupuncture visits as needed.

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese Medicine technique that involves the burning of the mugwort herb, artemesia vulgaris, over or sometimes directly on the skin. The Chinese character that refers to Acupuncture is Zhen Jiu. Zhen refers to Acupuncture and Jiu means Moxibustion. Moxibustion is not as well known in the US, but it is equally effective and important to Chinese Medicine treatment as Acupuncture.

Moxibustion has been used for thousands of years to strengthen the immune system, stimulate blood flow, initiate healing, and maintain overall health. The penetrating heat provides relief for pain, and can be especially useful for arthritis and joint pain. Modern research has verified the ability of moxibustion to stimulate immune function and increase NK cell activity.

Moxibustion is especially effective for arthritic pain, fibromyalgia pain, asthma, immunodeficiency, menstrual cramps, and fatigue.
